Mauritian Mountains
Mauritius is an island of volcanic origin. Its age is estimated at 10 million years, making it significantly older than its neighboring island La Reunion (2 million years). Therefore, the highest mountain in Mauritius, Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire, at 828 meters, is much lower than the highest mountain on La Reunion, Piton des Neiges (3070 meters). Nonetheless, the mountains in Mauritius are very picturesque, and sometimes they take surprising forms.
